Chin & Cheek Contouring
Chin and Cheek Contouring
Facial implants may be used to improve facial contours and help provide a more harmonious balance to your face and features. There are many implants available, manufactured from a variety of materials. They may help provide definition or balance with the rest of the face by creating a strong chin and/or prominent high cheekbones. Implants are made form materials such as silicone and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene.
Chin Implant Surgery
Insertion of a chin implant or mentoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthetic and requires approximately one hour. This procedure may be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as rhinoplasty. Dr. Elmaraghy will select the proper size and shape implant to enhance your appearance and inserts it into a pocket under the chin. The small incision to create the pocket and insert the implant is placed in the skin just under the chin area.
Cheek Implant Surgery
Insertion of a cheek implant or malar augmentation is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthetic and requires approximately one hour. When cheek implants are being placed in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift, forehead lift or eyelid surgery, the implants may be inserted through the incisions made for those procedures. Otherwise, an incision will be made either inside your upper lip or your lower eyelid. A pocket is then formed and an implant is inserted. The majority of the swelling and discoloration will resolve within a couple of weeks, however, the final result may not be apparent for weeks or months.
