A Breast Reduction, also known as a Reduction Mammoplasty, is designed to reduce the size of a woman’s breasts as well as provide a more attractive breast contour. Indications for a breast reduction include heavy breasts associated with:
- Back, neck and/or shoulder pain
- Poor posture
- Interference with activities of daily living and/or exercise
The surgical technique may vary, however, generally the procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision following the contour of the breast. The nipple-areolar complex is moved up and excess breast tissue, fat and skin are removed. A breast reduction may be combined with liposuction of the chest to improve the overall contour.
The operation may be performed:
Under general anesthesia on an inpatient or outpatient basis.
In approximately 2.5 hours.
